About a year ago, CRAF decided that it'd seek a more direct role in battling climate change, global warming and environmental deterioration by applying classical thinking in practical areas of contemporary concern. We have been studying and researching specific fields where we can be effective and become agents of change by applying classical thinking and methodology. Currently, we have identified two concrete sectors and are investigating what means are more effective and possible within our means. First in time has been the Mediterranean Sea Stewardship, centered in efforts to save and help prosper a specific seaweed, Posidonia, which has several proven benefits including CO2 capture and retention and coastal protection. The more recent is the Opuntia Forest, based on establishing and growing a forest of cactus trees called Opuntia or prickly pear cactus, which has also proven to be very strong in CO2 capture and retention and in production of livestock feed. CRAF is initially introducing these initiatives in South Sardinia, where environmental projects mix particularly well with economic development. After all, without the environment, there is no art.
