The Classical Roman Arts Foundation is thrilled to announce the fifth edition of the Ecco Echo Award, celebrating contemporary creators whose work resonates with the spirit, techniques, and stylistic influence of ancient Roman art.

This year, the award offers €1,000 for the acquisition of certain usage rights (to be negotiated) of the selected artwork. The Ecco Echo Award recognizes submissions that are imaginative, technically ambitious, and imbued with classical Roman inspiration—whether those echoes take physical or digital form.

Who can participate?

Artists and researchers, age 18 or older, of any nationality—but with a clear connection to Rome.
Submissions are accepted in two categories:
1. Physical works – such as paintings, sculptures, drawings, mixed-media constructions;
2. Digital works – submitted via USB, program, or other electronic media.

Ecco Echo Award Guidelines / The Application:

Ecco Echo is an acquisition award offered exclusively by the Classical Roman Arts Foundation (the “Foundation” or “CRAF”).
Ecco Echo Award means that CRAF will purchase certain rights - to be negotiated - of the chosen Work(s) for up to Euro 1,000. Depending on the Work and the Contestant’s vision, the Rights to Use it may be total or partial. In the partial case, the Contestant will retain certain enumerated rights to the Work.
The winning Work will be selected by the Foundation's Board of Directors based on technical, historical and thematic compatibility criteria. The Board has absolute discretion over the selection process.
By filing an Application, the Participant agrees to the terms and conditions set forth in these Guidelines.
Participants must be over eighteen years of age. No discrimination by nationality or any other illegal or unethical basis shall be applied. However, Participants must demonstrate that they have a particular connection to or with Rome.
The Work must be the participant's own work. Each Work encompasses the Participant’s product and all supporting material. Participants are encouraged to explain and elaborate on their work. Works will be admitted in the following mediums:
1. Physical pieces such as paintings, drawings, engravings, sculptures, statues or constructs;
2. b. Digital works whether encapsulated in a USB, a program, NFT or other electronic means.
To participate in the award, it is not required to send the artwork to the Foundation. Only certain candidates will be invited to send their artwork to the Foundation. Candidates who are invited to send their work to CRAF will have a deadline to deliver it and to pick it up. Material and artwork not retrieved by the deadline will be deemed abandoned by the respective Participant and discarded or otherwise disposed of.
All works must reverberate from, be inspired by or refer to the Classical Roman arts, techniques, styles and influences.
By filing the Application, Participants agree that CRAF has all rights to use images of their Work for publication and communication at CRAF’s sole discretion, without compensation, as long as the use is not intended (a) to damage their reputation as Artist or as member of their profession, or (b) for profit.
Early submissions will be accepted until April 15th, 2024.
Applicants may be contacted by members of the Board with inquiries and suggestions. Applicants are free to accept or reject them. These contacts will be confidential. In no way, they obligate the Board member to vote in favor or against the granting of the Award to the Work contacted about.
Applications must be done in two steps: 1) filling out and submitting the form below; 2) sending an e-mail with the requested material (see also para. 14 below) in PDF and JPEG/TIF/MP4 formats (contact CRAF if you must use a different format) to contact@classicalromanartsfoundation.org. No physical works are to be submitted with the Application.
The Application -which must also be emailed- shall consist of:
1. Candidate's complete curriculum;
2. Technical description of the work: As applicable, it must include material, size, file size, duration, previous exhibitions (if any) and other identificative, pertinent information.
3. Critical description of the work: concept, theme, references. The critical description must include the Participant’s thoughts on how the Work relates to the objective of the Award.
4. Explanation of how the Work is linked to a specific period, school, style and other identifiers of the particular area the Work relates to.
5. Photographs - still or moving - and representations of the Work to give a full view: front, back, sides, top and bottom as necessary; Link to access the visual materials are preferred. Reasonable-sized downloads will be accepted.
The Work needs not be finished at Application. The Participant must send all the requested materials as available and may update, supplement or alter them, including the visual materials, by April 15th, 2024.
An Application shall be deemed accepted once the Participant fulfills all requirements according to these Guidelines.
Participants may apply only once per Work. They may apply for up to three works.
A group of Participants may apply together for one Work. A Participant who belongs to a group may also apply separately for their own Work.
Participants agree to provide proof of the accuracy of any submitted information and material to the satisfaction of CRAF Board members.
Participants agree to participate in the Award Exhibition, and other publicity and public relations events, if invited by CRAF.
Participants agree to bear all responsibility and costs associated with the production, exhibition and associated activities of their Work.
Participants grant to CRAF the reproduction rights over their submitted Work to create a catalogue, archive the images, publicize the Work and the Award events, display the Work at the Award Exhibition and elsewhere, publish as set forth in para.9 above, and in any other related forms of communication.

La Classical Roman Arts Foundation è lieta di annunciare la quinta edizione dell’Ecco Echo Award, un riconoscimento dedicato ai creatori contemporanei la cui opera risuona con lo spirito, le tecniche e l’influenza stilistica dell’arte dell’antica Roma.

Quest’anno, il premio prevede €1.000 per l’acquisizione di determinati diritti d’uso (da negoziare) dell’opera selezionata. L’Ecco Echo Award valorizza proposte immaginative, tecnicamente ambiziose e intrise di ispirazione classica romana—sia che si manifestino in forma fisica, sia digitale.

Chi può partecipare

Artisti e ricercatori, di età pari o superiore a 18 anni, di qualsiasi nazionalità, ma con un chiaro legame con Roma.
Sono ammesse opere in due categorie:
1. Opere fisiche – pittura, scultura, disegno, costruzioni multimediali;
2. Opere digitali – presentate su USB, programma o altro supporto elettronico.

Ecco Echo: linee guida / modulo di partecipazione

Ecco Echo è un premio di acquisizione offerto esclusivamente dalla Classical Roman Arts Foundation (la “Fondazione” o “CRAF”).
Ecco Echo Award significa che la CRAF acquisterà alcuni diritti (da negoziare) dell'opera scelta per un massimo di Euro 1.000. A seconda dell'opera e della visione del partecipante, i diritti di utilizzo possono essere totali o parziali. Nel caso parziale, il partecipante manterrà alcuni diritti enumerati sull'opera.
L’opera vincente sarà selezionata dai direttori della Fondazione, i quali seguiranno criteri di giudizio improntati sulla compatibilità tecnica, storica e tematica. I direttori avranno massima discrezione durante il processo di selezione.
Compilando il modulo di partecipazione, i partecipanti aderiscono ai termini e alle condizioni specificati in queste linee guida.
I partecipanti devono essere maggiorenni. Nessuna discriminazione di nazionalità o altre categorie verrà applicata, nonostante ciò, i partecipanti devono dimostrare di avere una connessione particolare con Roma.
Ogni lavoro comprende il prodotto finale del candidato e il relativo materiale di supporto – i candidati sono incoraggiati a spiegare approfonditamente il loro elaborato. I lavori ammessi devono essere dei seguenti mezzi:
1. Opere fisiche come dipinti, disegni, incisioni, sculture, statue o costrutti;
2. Opere digitali racchiuse in USB o presentate tramite programmi o altre vie elettroniche.
Il lavoro presentato deve essere stato fatto dal partecipante stesso. Per partecipare al premio, non è necessario inviare l'opera alla Fondazione. Solo alcuni partecipanti saranno invitati a inviare le loro opere alla Fondazione.
1. I partecipanti invitati ad inviare le loro opere al CRAF avranno una scadenza per consegnarle e ritirarle. Il materiale e le opere non ritirate entro la scadenza verranno considerati abbandonati dai rispettivi partecipanti, e quindi gettati o eliminati.
Tutti i lavori presentati devono riecheggiare, essere inspirati o fare riferimento alle tecniche, agli stili e influenze dell’arte classica romana.
Compilando il modulo di partecipazione, i candidati accettano l’utilizzo da parte della CRAF delle immagini delle opere presentate a fini pubblicitari o comunicativi a discrezione delle CRAF senza rimborso finche l’utilizzo non causerà il danneggiamento della reputazione dell’artista o la sua posizione in quanto membro della sua professione.
L'opera finita deve essere presentata entro il 15 Aprile, 2024.
I partecipanti potrebbero essere contattati dai giudici con eventuali domande o suggerimenti ai quali i candidati sono liberi di rispondere o meno. Eventuali contatti saranno confidenziali e in nessun modo influenzeranno i membri della giuria a votare a favore o contro l’assegnazione del premio al candidato contattato.
La domanda di partecipazione deve essere completata in due fasi: 1) compila il modulo qui sotto; 2) manda un’email con il materiale richiesto (punto 14) in formato PDF e JPEG/TIF/MP4 a contact@classicalromanartsfoundation.org. I lavori fisici non devono essere presentati insieme alla domanda di partecipazione.
La domanda di partecipazione comprende:
1. Il curriculum completo del candidato;
2. Una descrizione tecnica dell’opera: ove possibile, deve includere materiale, grandezza, grandezza del file, durata, esibizioni passate (se presenti) e altre informazioni significative e pertinenti;
3. Una descrizione critica dell’opera: concetto, tema, riferimenti. La descrizione critica deve inoltre includere perché, secondo il candidato, l’opera racchiude lo scopo del premio Ecco Echo;
4. Una spiegazione relativa alla connessione dell’opera presentata con un periodo specifico, una scuola, uno stile o altri elementi identificativi al quale l’opera fa riferimento;
5. Una fotografia e rappresentazioni dell’opera a tutto tondo: frontale, laterale, del retro e del fondo se necessario. Un link per accedere al materiale visivo è preferito. Downloads di formati ragionevoli saranno accettati.
L’opera non deve essere stata completata per mandare la richiesta di partecipazione. Il candidato deve spedire tutte le informazioni richieste, le quali potranno essere aggiornate, alterate o integrate all’opera presentata entro il 15 Aprile, 2024.
La domanda di partecipazione verrà accettata solo se il partecipante soddisfa quanto specificato nelle linee guida.
I partecipanti possono presentare una domanda per opera. Possono essere presentate fino a un massimo di tre opere a partecipante.
Un gruppo di candidati può partecipare insieme per una sola opera. Ad un candidato che appartiene ad un gruppo è consentito partecipare anche individualmente con una propria opera.
I partecipanti aderiscono a fornire prove di autenticità per ogni informazione e materiale presentato se richiesto dai membri della giuria della CRAF.
I partecipanti aderiscono a partecipare all’esibizione del premio e altri eventi se invitati dalla CRAF.
Tutte le responsabilità e i costi associati alla produzione, esibizione e attività riguardanti il lavoro presentato sono a carico del partecipante.
I partecipanti garantiscono alla CRAF i diritti per inserire la loro opera nel catalogo, a fini di archiviazione e pubblicitari, pubblicare come previsto al precedente comma 9, come in altri luoghi o per altri fini comunicativi e per essere esposta alla mostra del Premio.
